Improving vocational training opportunities for young people

Encouraging an interest in science

Chemistry can be very exciting ... Students during the Discovery Days 2010 iin the Baylab plants.

We focus our social commitment on the areas which are our core competencies. These include research and innovation. Bayer CropScience also promotes scientific education and training for young people.

Scientific innovation can open up new routes to meeting the world’s demand for food. We want people to be able to understand scientific contexts and arguments at an early age. This will enable them to develop decision-making skills and to form their own factual opinions on current topics such as the use of crop protection products and the benefits of biotechnology.

The Baylab plants laboratory for schools, which opened in November 2008 in Monheim am Rhein, Germany, provides young people with an opportunity to spend a day learning about a new and, more particularly, exciting way of approaching science. Our goal is to increase their awareness of the challenges facing agriculture in the future.

Other prominent examples of the company’s social involvement are the “Learning for Life” initiative, part of the Childcare program in India, and training events for teachers in kindergartens and schools which we organize in cooperation with the company 3-up.

Our employees pay a special role in this context, volunteering their time so that they can actively pass on their knowledge to students visiting Baylab plants.
