Protecting water and using it efficiently

In the near future, water could become the major rate-limiting factor in agriculture. Bayer Crop-Science is committed to better protecting water resources and improving water-use efficiency - in agriculture and within the company too.

Our contribution to protecting water and using it efficiently

Agriculture accounts for roughly 70 percent of the fresh water consumed in the world. This is why top priority needs to be given to various measures designed to improve the management of water resources. The emphasis here is on improving the efficiency of irrigation. In addition, technologies for collecting water in rain-fed farming and better methods of cultivation can help to make the use of water in agriculture more efficient.

Bayer CropScience supports better protection of water resources and, where possible, the more efficient use of water in agriculture. Better water management methods and greater cooperation within the agricultural value-added chain will also help to optimize the way water is used.

Water – sustainable agriculture needs practical solutions

We develop stress-tolerant plant varieties

Suitable weed-control technologies promote conservative cultivation techniques to improve the water content of the soil.

We research products which enable plants to make better use of the available water.

We promote cultivation methods which support better water management, and we rigor-ously implement water-saving measures within the company.

Although the amount of water consumed at our production sites and other locations operated by Bayer CropScience is very low compared with the water consumed by agriculture, we nonetheless make a constant effort to reduce our water consumption even further.
